DEFINITIONS:
*Set up Beds: Refers to the number of beds designated to HPH-the hospital's funding is based upon this number. Despite the fact that HPH has 211 Set-up Beds our 1999 census of 157 Staffed Beds in utilization shows movement to the community-the resources-difference between 211 and 157 beds is being utilized for community initiatives. By definition, we are obliged to retain the 211-bed figure until the funding formulas are adjusted to recognize HPH's significant shift to community services.

*Staffed Beds: Beds currently available that could be occupied at a moment's notice without redirecting staff from other programs. This number should reflect the facility's true capacity to provide care. Beds that cannot be staffed and not available for service should not be included.

*Brant/Niagara Geriatric Outreach: Psychogeriatric outpatient services in Brant and Niagara

*Exit Team: Refers to a team specifically designed to prepare patients for discharge and follow-up in community.

*Other Community-Based: Includes Homes for Special Care (St. Giles, and St. Catharines); Hamilton Health Sciences Corp-MUMC; St. Joseph's Hospital-East Region, CPS, EPT, CHC; WPOP; Rainbow Ceramics and Crafts; Hamilton-Wentworth Region Public Health Unit-Bridge to Discharge and Homeless Program; COAST; Grimsby West Lincoln; Canadian Mental Health Association/Brant-Case Management Team; Exit Team; Adult Mental Health Services of Haldimand-Norfolk.

*Other: Dental etc.: Includes all diagnostic and nutrition services

*Rehabilitation Services: refers to the outpatients attending programs in Rehabilitation Services (see Clinical Programs and Services)
